Assemblyman John McDonald (D-Cohoes), Assemblyman Scott Bendett (R,C-Sand Lake), and other Albany legislators have announced the successful securing of five years of funding for the Burdett Birthing Center (BBC) from this year's state budget. The victory follows tireless efforts from residents and stakeholders who united to ensure the vital facility's continued operation.

The Burdett Birthing Center had been at risk of closure, which would have posed significant challenges for families in Rensselaer County and beyond. Closure would have exacerbated existing hurdles related to transportation and access to care, leaving expecting families in a vulnerable position. Being the sole birth center in Rensselaer County and serving patients across Columbia, Washington, and Albany Counties, the BBC is pivotal in providing equitable access to essential medical services.

Assemblyman Scott Bendett, reflecting on the funding success, emphasized, "This funding victory is a testament to the power of grassroots efforts and community resilience." He further added, "As a father, I will always fight for health care decisions to be made between a woman and her doctor. Today’s announcement ensures that will remain the case."

The secured funding for the Burdett Birthing Center ensures the continuation of critical healthcare services for residents in the region. The commitment to supporting this essential facility underscores the significance of community advocacy and cooperation in preserving vital healthcare resources for the well-being of families and individuals.
